You can send your child for the full time every day or any portion of any day that we are open. However, we do not offer pro rata fees. We have to maintain staffing ratios and are limited in our total number of enrolled students; we simply cannot accommodate part time or drop in enrollments.
Children are dismissed from their classrooms to JGEC. We proceed to snack and then play outside, weather permitting. While outside, students have access to the playground, but we also have one or two teachers running various games. We periodically mix in outdoor crafts and nature observations along with seasonal activities.
When we cannot be outside (or after we've played outside), we set up stations inside. These include books, music, building, tumbling, crafts, and board games. We also typically have an indoor game (basketball or a team building game) going on in the gym. Students have the opportunity to attend homework room daily, as well.
BEFORE CARE - drop off is at the cafeteria door. As students are usually a bit sleepy in the mornings, we have some crafting supplies and games available for play. Many also read a book or work on homework for the week. Since we are already in the cafeteria, dismissal to 7:30 breakfast is right there.
Pick your child up any time. Kindergarten and 1st and grade are picked up at class and escorted to the cafeteria where they have snack from 3:00 - 3:30 and then go outside. 2ne, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders dismiss to the gymnasium. As soon as they have washed their hands they walk down to the cafeteria for snack (usually about 3:10 - 3:25). If your child is at snack, you'll pull up to the front of the school and knock on the doors by the tables (near the main entrance to the school). Outside of snack time, we are typically either outside on the playground or in the gym (which is connected to the playground). We also have access to a community room and classroom space, but once we leave the cafeteria, the primary location for pickup is the playground/gym entrance. Please note, there is a restroom break after snack so it does take several minutes for each group to make their way from the cafeteria to the other end of the school; we complete this task as quickly as possible.
We strive to be open as many regular work days as possible as we know parents need to work. You can find a link to the MNPS calendars on our links and documents page. We are required to close on days when the district is closed as the building remains locked and no district employees work. Any day that the students are out of school but the district is not closed, we aim be open from 7:00 AM - 5:45 PM. Sign ups are available on our website; when we have insufficient sign ups on a given day, we will close. This is most likely to happen over the summer.
Extended Days are listed on our website and available for sign up until 2 weeks before the date. You pay when you sign up. Non-Program participants are charged an additional $20 per day. If that is not paid upon sign up, it will be invoiced though ProCare. If you sign up late, you will be invoiced the extended day fee along with a late sign up fee through ProCare. Regular before/after care is invoiced monthly and due the last day of the month prior to care.
